“My lithographs are based on organic forms and systemic systems found in the natural world. Plants are drawn from direct observation, from those in greenhouses, my own plants and forms found in the forest. The drawings are then fragmented and layered. Through the printmaking process these images then form and become new structures, and references suggest a range of organic and biological forms. When taken out of context the systems become a new vision, taking on a sort of organic surrealism. These organic botanical forms can be quite beautiful, but they can also be quite strange. Our natural surroundings are the same. They are more than just pretty landscapes. When one chooses to look closely you see that nature is weird, sexual, and even grotesque. It is this oddness that I find fascinating.”
